A Tasmanian Leaders Scholarship covers all, or a portion of, the program fee for program participants, increasing accessibility of Tasmania’s preeminent leadership development program.

Scholarships are a great way for an organisation, government department or peak body to increase capacity within a chosen sector and ensure certain perspectives, viewpoints or geographical locations are present during the program; or to simply give back to the community in a meaningful and practical way.

Scholarships help Tasmanian Leaders ensure there is suitable diversity amongst our participants. This diversity is critical to each programs success because much of the learning is peer taught from the participants themselves and having variations (age, experience, sector, personality etc.) helps broaden the conversations and learnings.

The first criterion for all scholarships is acceptance by Tasmanian Leaders into the program; the rest are set by the scholarship partner. Scholarship partners not only set the criteria for eligibility but also nominate the amount of financial support available to the applicant. If no suitable applicant applies for a particular scholarship, no money exchanges hands between Tasmanian Leaders and the scholarship partner.

Past scholarships have been provided by the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and the Arts, NRM North, RDS Partners, Cityprom and the Tasmanian Early Years Foundation.

A small fee (5%) is charged on top of the scholarship, if awarded, to allow Tasmanian Leaders to service the relationship with the scholarship partner and provides the partner with invites to all program events including three networking events in Launceston, Hobart and Burnie, a launch at the start of the program and a graduation dinner on conclusion.

Most scholarships cover the employer fee, but they can also provide financial support to help cover access issues for applicants who have a disadvantage that would add a significant cost or barrier to being involved in the program. Such barriers may be geographical, such as living remotely such as King or Flinders Island, or physical, such as a disability that requires specialised transport to and from events.

The employer fee for the 2017 Tasmanian Leaders Program is $5,600 (incl GST), setting a full scholarship at $5,880.00 (incl GST). However there is nothing precluding an organisation putting up a partial scholarship with the view that the participant or their organsiation would contribute any difference.

If you would like to know more about how your organisation can be involved in our scholarship program please contact Jayne or Angela in the Tasmanian Leaders office on 6777 2781.
